I wish I could say that the senior level management at Gartner was reading my blog on a daily basis (and learning from it), but I could never be so presumptuous. I bring this up because last year, Gartner's list did not include mobility, which suprised me.
Gartner did however publish its Top 10 strategic technologies for 2010 today. This year, they included mobile APPLICATIONS.
By year-end 2010, 1.2 billion people will carry handsets capable of rich, mobile commerce providing a rich environment for the convergence of mobility and the Web. There are already many thousands of applications for platforms such as the Apple iPhone, in spite of the limited market and need for unique coding.
So this is more about mobile WEB and ecommerce than business applications. What about mobile enterprise application platforms...which is the MEAP term they coined (really good one, by the way). What about mobilty management?
Why not just say that mobility in general is a Top 10 technology for 2010? You can't have mobile applications without everything else around it...
But, then again, what the heck do I know?
