As you might know, Windows Mobile 6.5, the latest incarnation of Microsoft maligned mobile operating system was officially released, along with a bevvy of new Windows Phones at CTIA a couple of weeks ago in San Diego. You know, the place I was going to when my plane ran out of gas...not that I am bitter or anything. There was an interesting blog post that was sent to my inbox yesterday via Google Alerts that I found fascinating...if only because I was asking myself the very same question a couple of weeks ago.

Welcome to the latest edition of Inside Looking Out. This past week, I spoke with Franck DELORME. Why did I put his last name in all caps? That's because that's what you do with French last names! Franck is the CEO at Sparus Software, a leading device management solution provider in France.
I first spoke with Franck a couple of months ago, and I'll admit to you that I was slightly worried about that first call. If only for the sake of first impressions, I wanted to do the entire call in French, but I wasn't sure if I actually knew all the technical words of our space in French. In the end, that first call went great, but I did get off the phone and blew a huge sigh of relief!
I spoke with Franck again this past week - this time in English - and we had a very interesting conversation about mobility management in Europe.

My step father is a physician - a geriatrician to be precise. Not only does he spend his days taking care of people in the twilight of their years, he's also the medical director for non-acute care at the largest hospital network in the Boston area. I adore this man.
Beyond the table stakes that he is so kind and caring to my mom, he's not your typical physician. He can intelligently talk about an incredibly broad range of subjects, and in fact I often find myself talking to him about how mobility can and could impact the healthcare industry. His input has been absolutely invaluable in helping me have more smarter conversations with other medical professionals regarding enterprise mobility.
Some of that thinking comes through in the latest article I have penned for FierceMobileIT.

You know how much I like to read. I feel as if I spend half my day (a long one, at that) reading. I like to read blogs, news sites, interviews, press releases and also looking at research that is being disseminated both by my company, as well as others. Right or wrong, I don't always agree with what I see. Yesterday was such a case, when I stumbled upon this piece of research.

I wish I could say that the senior level management at Gartner was reading my blog on a daily basis (and learning from it), but I could never be so presumptuous. I bring this up because last year, Gartner's list did not include mobility, which suprised me.
Gartner did however publish its Top 10 strategic technologies for 2010 today. This year, they included mobile APPLICATIONS.

Welcome to the latest edition of Inside Looking Out. This past week, I spoke with Sandeep Bhanote. Sandeep is CEO at
Global Bay Global Bay has been developing mobile applications since 2002, so they definitely understand the realities and opportunities of the space.
While I have known of Global Bay for quite some time, I only met Sandeep a few months ago. All I can say is that when I first met him, we spent as much time laughing as talking about enterprise mobility. Somehow, that seems to have become a pattern every time I speak to him. That makes working that much more fun. I sat down with Sandeep last week - check it out after the jump.

The weekend here in Boston was strange, to say the least. As usual, the weather forcasters are paid well to be completely wrong (I wish I had that job). Yesterday, I was watching my beloved New England Patriots embarass their opponents from Tennessee in the snow. Yes, snow in October. That's just wrong. And then the commercial came on the screen. iDon't believe what I am watching here.

I know it's been a slow week in terms of my adding commentary on the world of enterprise mobility. For whatever reason, CTIA actually took a bigger toll on me than I would have normally expected. In any case, I had a discussion yesterday with a mobile application company that showed off to me their wares. They had some pretty impressive functionality on the application that runs on the device.
However, it did make me think about how the application gets managed by either the user and/or an IT administrator.

As I was prepping my thoughts for this latest entry, I was looking for an appropriate picture to place along with the commentary. This act made me also read over some of the past entries I made for other CTIA shows. It's interesting to see some of the titles I had for other post CTIA ruminations. I think the most relevant and appropriate one was "I survived CTIA." Ya, that seems to fit the bill again this year.
Regardless, it's interesting to see how things have changed over the last few shows. Some themes haven't (e.g., the Fall show seems to get smaller every year), while others have considerably.

All I can say is wow. This was one of the most absurd trips I have taken in a long time. The plane take off a little late (not new). The head winds are bad (not new). The plane RUNS OUT OF GAS. That's new. Landed in LAS as opposed to LAX (I'm convinced the pilot punched in the wrong code). I missed the connection to SAN (not new) and instead drove there. That's new. Got to my hotel only to find that the hotel was overbooked and I had no room.
Oh well...at least I got to meet Andy Lees and talk to him a bit about Windows Mobile.
