Welcome to the latest edition of Inside Looking Out. This past week, I spoke with John Traynor of Palm- you know, the guys who launched that nifty new device a few months back. As vice-president, business products, John is responsible for product management and marketing of Palm’s offerings targeting the business and enterprise markets, including the Treo brand of Windows phones and the business features of webOS.
I originally met John when he first joined Palm. Prior to joining Palm, John spent 16 years at Microsoft. Most recently, John was senior director, product marketing, in the Mobile Communications Group with responsibility for product solutions, including (among other things) System Center Mobile Device Manager.

If you own a Palm Pre, or just like to follow what is new with Palm's (uber cool) new webOS platform, you may have noticed that Palm announced yesterday an update (v1.1) of webOS.
I spoke to John Traynor about it a couple of days ago, and when he went through the list of improvements in v1.1, and after he explained to me all the things that were improved under the hood, I told him that while I understood why this was being labeled a "minor" release (going from 1.0.3), I consider this a major step forward for Palm in terms of the "friendliness" of webOS in the enterprise.

Welcome to the latest edition of Inside Looking Out. Even when on the road going from one meeting to the next, I try to make time to speak to people and just learn from them. This week, I got to sit down with Willie Jow. Willie is the Vice President for Business Operations and Product Marketing at Sybase - one of the largest companies in the enterprise mobility ecosystem.
I originally met Willie during their analyst conference in New York back in May, so it was great timing for me to go see Willie during last week's trek out to San Francisco.

Now back from my brief trip to the West Coast, I am done digging myself out of what was an impressive (depressing?) amount of things that piled up on me in just two days.
As you know, Twitter has become an impressive tool for real-time knowledge (or almost anything else for that matter)sharing. I saw a tweet today from the people at InformationWeek that caught my eye: Web May Be Ultimate Mobile Platform. Needless to say, it made me think about the potential impact on enterprise mobility. I'm talking Mobile Cloud Computing.

Welcome to the latest edition of Inside Looking Out. As you may have seen from yesterday's entry, I spoke this past week with Jim Hemmer. Jim is the President and CEO of Antenna Software, a leading New Jersey based player in the mobile enterprise application platform market.
When Jim and I got to catch up last week, we killed two birds with one stone. We spoke about the acquisition of Dexterra, as well as some general trends in enterprise mobility. Read on...

What a pain. I'm in San Francisco today and tomorrow, and beyond having tons of client calls to go on, the WiFi here was a complete pain to connect to. Having taken an early flight yesterday from Boston, what I can tell you is that while I am no longer a fan of travel (having racked up enough frequent flyer miles in my day), the good part about a long flight is that I can catch up on work – especially now that I have my new extended battery (BTW, when did I get so boring that having an extra five hours of battery became a good thing???) While I was jealous that the seven year old next to me is playing Lego Star Wars (it looked pretty fun!), I did have the time now to ponder a recent event in the mobile enterprise application space.

A couple of people have spoken to me about this topic and asked me to put my thoughts to virtual paper. As you might know, our dear dear friends over at the US Internal Revenue Service...you know, those people whom you just LOVE to give your hard earned money to every couple of weeks, are thinking about changing the law on the value and benefit of a corporate liable device.
