Ya ya ya....I know. I'm late. I've been travelling, planning new trips, doing presentations, trying to write some research for the company that writes me a paycheck every couple of weeks, blah, blah, blah. Oh and it was Turkey Day last week. So I am once again, "fashionably" late at responding to the little ping pong match I have been playing with my friends in Canada.
So now Analystik is talking about processes as part of defining and managing productivity gains from enterprise mobility solutions. I couldn't agree more. However (like you didn't know this was coming), I will challenge the "process optimization" they discuss.
I look at the processes that organizations need to optimize in terms of how they need to structure themselves. They need to have both business and IT processes in place to manage the entire lifecycle of enterprise mobility management. They need to have (trained) people to develop the business plans, as well as the IT policies. These organizations need to have the processes in place for:
- Strategy development
- Procurement
- Device management
- Application management
- Service management
- Expense management
- Tech support (including help desk)
- Training (for both IT and non-IT staff)
The IT processes also need to be in sync with the business processes of the organization (e.g. HR functions). That's how a holistic strategy gets developed. The less you focus on the technology for "technology sake," the more you can actually derive from your mobility investments.
