I just thought I'd share a recap of a webinar I did yesterday on Wireless LAN security. The webinar was actually hosted by Computerworld. This was a joint presentation between myself, ID Engines and Meru Networks. Computerworld described it as such:
Aberdeen Group’s new “Wireless LAN Security” report found that best-in-class organizations reduced their financial losses from security breaches over the last 12 months by 99% and yet spent 42% less than others for the ongoing security of the wireless network. Want to learn how?
There will be a recording provided shortly, and I will make sure to update the post with that URL.

When I was young, I loved Donald Duck. I'll even admit that I found Daisy "cute". In fact, I was a HUGE fan of reading the French comic strips about "Oncle Picsou" a.k.a. Uncle Scrooge McDuck in the US. Mind you, as an adult, I still enjoy the wonderful stories that Disney has created - not to mention the sheer genius that is Pixar. However, I never understood the rationale behind Disney becoming a MVNO. Now, Disney has announced that after 18 months of trying, Mickey will no longer be there to answer when you dial 611.

I'm pretty miffed right now, I had a great post all written and then TypePad lost it somehow. See, I had just written a post on this past week's news that Verizon Wireless had announced it was switching to LTE for its 4G infrastructure. I had even made some (somewhat) funny joke that either hell was freezing over or that we might even see Palm develop some truly uber device for this new network.

Rumor has it that Palm may be delaying its next-generation operating system. The knee-jerk reaction is to think that this is yet another nail in Palm's coffin. There's an interesting article from the British rag, The Guardian, that sheds some more light on the entire Foleo/Palm OS II debacle. It's incredibly revealing in terms of how messed up the organization's strategy was/is.
This actually goes back to my earlier post on the Palm "debacle." While I maintain my original position that it's good to see Elevation Partners take more control of Palm's strategy, what amazes is me is just how far Palm may have gone astray. While innovation has been, shall we say politely, "anemic," I really didn't think things were really so bad at Palm.

I know, I know. Probably not the catchiest title ever. Some might argue that it could be downright the lamest title ever for a post, but don't let the cheezy title prevent you from reading on. Earlier this week, Cisco launched its first enterprise grade 802.11N access point. While not the first vendor to deliver enterprise grade pre-N product, Cisco does claim its product is the only one to have been certified by the WiFi Alliance. I think seeing Cisco get on board with Draft-N product is a great thing on multiple levels.

Palm Corporation created much hype at D: All Things Digital around their upcoming Foleo device. The device, which Jeff Hawkins had described as "the best idea I've ever had" was not as well received as Palm had hoped for. Now Palm and its CEO Ed Colligan announced on September 4 that it had cancelled its plans to launch the product to focus on its forthcoming devices. Some industry pundits have called it "rock bottom" for Palm. I say, it's about the hell time.

Every so often, we'll hear in the news about some local or national government agency that had its laptop, and the critical data it contained, stolen. Then, there was the TJX debacle just a few months ago, and now the hot topic around security and data is the Monster.com affair. I'm wondering what will happen when (not if) this happens in the world of enterprise mobility.
